First choose the best GftK paving joint mortar for repointing according to the area, exposure and joint dimensions i.e., the joint width, depth and uniformity of these dimensions – Variable width joints will cause problems for almost every jointing material except GftK’s 2^nd-generation epoxy, so for these the best choice is always GftK vdw 850+. For narrower joints and porcelain that is often <5mm wide, the narrower grade, GftK vdw 815+ is perfect. For more uniform joints on a domestic patio and for easy DIY application, then GftK’s Patio Grout will be the ideal 1-part, ready to use solution. A resin patio grout, also called a resin jointing compound, is generally a 1- or a 2-part mortar grout that hardens to a tough compound in the joints between the paving elements of slabs, setts or tiles etc.. Not with most paving jointing products should not be applied in the wet, BUT - Yes, you can with special GftK products, including 2-part, epoxy based GftK vdw 850+, plus GftK vdw 815+, the finer grade of the same technology, and GftK’s unique, 1-part Patio Grout. Use a cleaner made for the residue. Our Resin Residue Remover softens and removes resin grout residue from natural stone and porcelain. Our Cement, Grout & Salts Remover dissolves cement residue, grout haze and efflorescence. Follow the directions on each product page.

Yes, it is always best to clean the paving first to ensure clean surfaces for the new grout to bond with, this will also restore and enhance the overall finished appearance - If a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well!  For example, use NCC Blackspot & Green Growth Remover for removing lichens and algae etc.; use NCC Grime Remover HD for general dirt build-up, and NCC Rust Remover for locally removing rust and iron stains e.g., from garden furniture etc.

A sealer is always optional but these can definitely help protect paving from staining and de-icing salt damage. Choose a sealer made for your type of paving and surface exposure, such as our water-based paving and patio sealer, solvent dispersed Natural Stone Sealer or NCC Porcelain Protect & Enhance.
